I WANT!

I wouldn't mind to be the owner of this bathing suit!
(I wouldn't mind to have Yvonne's physique either.)
It's a shame that stuff like this isn't produced anymore.

PEG COASTER

Mjolk och Lingon blogged about her housewife lexicons
from the 1950's last week.
I got the same series but mine looks slightly different.
I got the whole lot for about 75 kr at a flea market in
Sweden many years ago. ($10, £6, €7)

Anyway, we both like the craft book and I actually tried
one of the projects out.
I made a coaster for the coffee pan, out of wooden pegs!
I know it's a bit whimsical and it looks a bit wonky but
it was fun to at least try.

Here's my result:

I'm awfully busy finishing my fascinator hats and hair-
flowers, more to come tomorrow!

BUSY BEE

Sorry for the lack of posts lately.
I'm trying to finish a whole bunch of projects at the
same time, therefore my absence.

I went out tonight to celebrate my mother in law on
her 80th birthday so and I was wearing the dress I
revamped not so long ago.
I promised you a picture and this is the best I can
offer for now.

Tomorrow I will hopefully have some time to post
pictures of my other recently finished projects.

A LITTLE RANT

I feel the need to have a little rant.
Is that OK?
My expensive pattern arrived yesterday, not to
my home but a note did that I have a fee to pay
for it if I want it, £12.38. (145 kr/$20/€14)
It really pissed me off because I thought it was
a customs charge. On a pattern?!
I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a dress
or a pair of shoes but a pattern!
Anyway, I went to the delivery office to get my
pattern and unwillingly pay the damn fee, I had
already payed too much to begin with.
Turns out that it's not a customs charge, it's the
seller that hasn't bothered to pay any VAT!
Terrific! This seller has her own company and
had sold many patterns over the years, how on
earth can she forget to pay VAT?!
(She's not on Etsy or eBay.)
I will take up a dispute with her because it's all
her fault and I'm far from happy.

FINDS

Hi my darlings!
Sorry for boring posts yesterday, I'm not well at
the moment, this is my third day feeling dizzy
and queasy and my right side feel like it's gonna
burst, I have horrible nightmares so I not very
inspired to be honest.
I'm just watching crap on telly while I'm working
on new hair flowers, at least I'm doing something.

Today I just wanna show off my latest finds, if
you don't mind...

I won these 1950's sunglasses on eBay the other
day for £2.70, shipping was free. (31 kr, $4, €3)

Went for a check up on my eyes today and after
having a nice lunch we went to my favorite vintage
store. I needed my vintage fix and there was a few
bits I wanted but I settled for this nice dark blue
handbag for £5. (58 kr, $8, €5)
Perfect with a pair of dark blue jeans and red flats!

HOW SILLY OF ME!

I totally forgot to post a link to the felt rose tutorial!

Good luck and enjoy!

FELT BROOCHES

I tried something new yesterday, I made felt brooches.
It was fiddly but also a lot of fun. I had some felt scraps
so I thought I'd give it a go.
It was easier to work with the thin poly felt and it looks
a lot better as well.
The red ones are made out of the thinner felt.
Felt jewelry was very popular in the 1940's, because it
was cheap and people made a lot of their own jewelry
and accessories themselves.

NEW CREATIONS

I finished these two tie tops the other day.
They were the last of the bunch but I might
make more of them in a while.
I got other 40's/50's tops I want to make.
I also started working on hair flowers again.
I got so many projects to work on right now,
it's like a bag of pick n' mix.

A LA LANA

Almost a year ago I started revamping this 1970's
dress I got from a friend who was about to throw it
in the bin.
It's been laying around on my to do pile ever since.
Yesterday I decided to finally finish it!
I do like the fabric and the shape is perfect for my
short frame but the awful turtleneck was too tight
and unflattering since I've got a short neck.
I decided to go for keyhole a'la Lana Turner in the
movie The Postman Always Rings Twice.

The keyhole was a breeze to make but the rest of
the dress needed A LOT of mending.
I had to sew new seams all over and sew by hand
where the sewing machine couldn't go, I also had
to change the zipper.
It was worth it though.

AFTER:

I promise to take a picture of me wearing it pretty
soon because it looks rather dull just hanging there.

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND!

NOT BAD FOR 99 PENCE, HUH?

I won these on eBay the other day for 99 pence!!!
(11 kr/$1.60/€1.10)
They arrived this morning and I'm totally in love.
Not only were they brand new, they are also very
comfortable.

I forgot to bid on these twice!
I sent a message to the seller telling her I missed
the auction and asking if she would re-list them,
she replied that she'd given them to a charity shop.
I was heartbroken for a while but she must have
been thinking of the wrong pair of shoes because
one week lather they were re-listed and this time
I didn't miss them.

ALOHA!

Thank you for your kind words yesterday.
My man is alive and well, a bit sore (of course)
and frustrated that he's not allowed to use the
gym for six weeks but apart from that he's fine.

Four days ago I found this vintage matching
Hawaiian set on eBay.
I was too tired to stay up until 2 AM so I put in
a bid and hoped for the best, I was happy to find
out that I won it this morning.
£28 including shipping, not bad at all!
(324 kr/$46/€31)
Since I couldn't find anything for my mother in
law to buy me for my birthday I'm gonna ask her
for to pay for this set, it saves her a lot of money
and her baby boy gets a shirt.

It's a genuine Hawaiian set from the 1960's.
The dress looks a bit too long for my taste
so I might alter it slightly.

QUICK POST

I really don't have time to sit by the computer today,
my man is going to the hospital to have surgery and
I will be busy doing laundry, cleaning and praying
that he'll be alright.
I'm picking him up in the evening and I want him to
be able to rest without me disturbing him with noise
from the dryer and the vacuum cleaner in the next
few days.

Change of subject.
I found another pattern that I just couldn't resist.
It was rather cheap and the shipping cost was low so
I couldn't help myself.
There's now three pattern that should arrive shortly,
can't wait!

I also found this kick ass tutorial site that you have to
check out! It's called Cut Out + Keep and there's tons
of cool projects to try out.

HOW EXOTIC!

I won this dress last night for £22.50 incl. shipping.
(255 kr/$36/€25)
The seller claimed it's a 1950's dress, I would say it's
a 1950's style dress, probably made in the 1980's.
I don't really care, I just love the fabric, it's so fab.
I guess I have a thing for pineapples...

FIRST CREATION OF THE YEAR

First out this year is my sailor tie top.
I did some small alterations to the pattern I used for
the other tie tops and I'm actually very pleased with
the result.
What do you think?

If you're interested in any of my tie tops, please let me know and I
will list them on Etsy. They are all a size small/medium.

PICTURES FROM ACE CAFE

My friend Horst Friedrichs sent me some photos
that he took of me back in August on hot rod night
at Ace Cafe in London.
I really don't like being photographed, I feel so
uncomfortable because I know I'm gonna look like
a butterball!
(Thank you very much ass bag bully's from school!)

SORRY...

Hi my darlings!
I'm sorry about the lack of posts.
I'm very busy at the moment, having a love affair with
my sewing machine, loads of new projects in progress.

All I have to offer today is this song, "Chew Tobacco
Rag" by Billy Briggs, it's currnetly stuck on my brain.

Hope you all doing fine, see you soon!

I GOT WOOD

Went for a little road trip to Hertford yesterday and
stopped by some charity shops.
I didn't find anything, except this awesome wooden
bowl for £1.

It's the perfect addition to the other kitschy wooden
Hawaiian stuff we got in our cocktail bar.

REDISCOVERED LOVE

I rediscovered my love for The Cramps this morning.
This is a new favorite.

Tuesday 5 January 2010

BARGAINS!

I might have told you that I'm not much for shopping at
the moment, but today I got a feeling that I should have
a look in one of my favorite shops, New Look, when I get
that feeling there's always a gem waiting for me.
There was even further reductions on the sale so I ended
up with a few bargains. This is what I got:

Bra, £2. (22 kr, $3, €2)

Flats, £3. (34 kr, €3, $5)

Two toned heels, £10. (110 kr, $16, €10)

CHECK THIS OUT!

I love this song (yes, I'm an old Weezer fan) and
the girl in this video has got a very cute hairstyle.
Make sure you check this one out!
You can find a hair tutorial for this style here.

I'M A SPLURGER

Maybe 2010 is my year, well, it started out pretty good.
I've been searching for this really rare pattern every day
for over two years and yesterday I finally found it and it
was for sale!
I thought $45 including shipping was a bit too high but I
would never ever forgive myself if I didn't buy it because
the chance of finding it might never come again.
I feel like a big spender, a splurger. LOL!
I also bought two other patterns that will be very useful
and hopefully not too complicated.
I really looking forward to get them and start working!

THE PARTY CONTINUES...

Hi my darlings!
I hope you all had a swell time last night and not too
much of a hangover this morning.
I have had a very nice day so far, me and my darling
went for a walk in the sun and we saw a Bull Terrier.

The party continues in our house tonight, it's Shabbat
so we're gonna have a feast and a Jive.

If you're one of those who's determined to learn how
to Jive this year, here's my favorite song to Jive to.
